Allied health across Greater Brisbane: coverage, travel, and how an appointment gets arranged

Bloom Healthcare delivers mobile allied health across Greater Brisbane. Clinicians travel to the address where support is needed — a home, a school, a workplace, a day program or another community setting — rather than asking you to attend a clinic. Telehealth is available where distance or health makes travel the barrier.

Greater Brisbane is a wide catchment with very different travel realities between the inner suburbs, the bay side and the western corridor, and a single enquiry often involves more than one address: a child's home and their school, for example. This page sets out how coverage is checked, what the local pages cover, and what to have ready. To check an address, call 1300 771 465 or email hello@bloom-healthcare.com.au.

Where Bloom works around Brisbane

Enquiries are regularly taken from:

Several areas have their own pages with more detail on what is delivered there: North Lakes occupational therapy, Redland Bay occupational therapy, Sunshine Coast occupational therapy and Brisbane psychology and counselling.

Coverage also extends well past Greater Brisbane. The South East Queensland guide covers the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg, Townsville and Cairns, so if you are in regional or far north Queensland it is worth asking rather than assuming the service stops at the Sunshine Coast.

What a list of areas cannot tell you is whether the specific discipline you need is available at your address this month. Availability is a travel radius around where clinicians are based and it varies by discipline as well as by area. Give the exact postcode and the discipline when you call, and ask about current availability rather than about coverage in general.

One enquiry, more than one address

A Brisbane enquiry frequently involves two or three locations: home for the family, a school or childcare for the child, sometimes a workplace or a day program. Each address is assessed separately, because the travel question is different for each one, and the answer for one is not the answer for the others.

If the request involves a school, say so early. School attendance needs the school's agreement and the family's consent, and arranging that at the start is considerably easier than adding it after a clinician has already been allocated and a schedule built.

Which funding stream applies to you

The funding pathway usually matters more than the postcode, because it decides what can be arranged, who approves it and who pays.

NDIS participants. Allied health is normally funded from the Capacity Building budget under Improved Daily Living. You do not need a GP referral to start an NDIS allied health enquiry. If your plan is NDIA-managed you must use a registered provider, and Bloom Healthcare is registered (Registration no 4-JR6F5KX, Provider no 4050148863). Self-managed and plan-managed participants can use either registered or unregistered providers. The NDIS page sets out the detail.

Older Australians. In-home aged care is funded through the Support at Home program, which replaced the Home Care Packages Program and the Short-Term Restorative Care Programme on 1 November 2025. Allied health sits in the Clinical Supports category. Access starts with an aged care assessment through My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 — Bloom does not decide anyone's funding, and no provider can. See the Support at Home hub and aged care services.

Medicare and private. Psychology and counselling can be accessed under a valid referral, and self-funded arrangements are available where no plan is in place. See Medicare services, pricing and the FAQ.

Disciplines available in the Brisbane catchment

Occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, psychology and counselling, exercise physiology, dietetics, positive behaviour support and paediatric therapy.

Assessment and report work

A large share of what is booked around Brisbane is evidence work rather than ongoing therapy: functional capacity assessments, assistive technology and wheelchair prescription, home modifications, and SDA, SIL or ILO housing assessments. Each produces a report that a funder can act on.

Report work has two timeframes, not one: the appointment date and the report turnaround. People often ask about the first and are then surprised by the second, particularly when a plan review deadline is involved. Ask about both, and say on the first call if there is a date the report has to meet — that determines who is allocated and how much time is set aside.

Complexity also drives the hours. An assessment where psychology input is involved as well as occupational therapy takes longer than one that is not. The hours and the cost are quoted before the assessment begins and are set out in the service agreement.

Travel, setting and cost

Travel time is priced into in-home and community sessions, so the setting affects what you are charged. Ask for the estimate in writing before services begin and check it against your service agreement.

In-person is the right call when the environment is part of the assessment: home safety, transfers and falls risk, equipment prescription, or a community session built around a destination you actually use — a shop, a bus route, a park.

Telehealth earns its place for programme progression, education for families and carers, planning conversations, short reviews and continuity between visits. For an address further out in the western corridor, a mix of periodic in-person visits and telehealth in between is often more practical than waiting for a clinician to be in the area.

Children and young people around Brisbane

Paediatric therapy runs from early childhood through the 10 to 17 age range. The NDIS early childhood approach applies to children younger than 9; children younger than 6 with developmental delay can access support without a formal diagnosis.

Sessions happen in the settings a child already uses — home, childcare, playgroup, preschool, school — and the approach is family-centred, aimed at building the family's own capacity so strategies keep running through ordinary daily routines rather than only during a session. See paediatric therapy and Thriving Kids.

Supports commonly used at this age are speech pathology for speech, language, understanding, social communication and feeding; occupational therapy for daily living skills, fine motor skills, sensory processing, play and routines; physiotherapy for gross motor development, coordination and balance; psychology or counselling for anxiety, emotional regulation and behaviour; and positive behaviour support where behaviours of concern affect safety or participation. Families with concerns can get early connections and support even where a child is not yet eligible for full NDIS funding, so a referral is worth making rather than waiting for certainty.

Aged care in the Brisbane catchment

Under Support at Home, allied health sits in Clinical Supports. The practical starting point is an aged care assessment, which is arranged through My Aged Care rather than through Bloom — Bloom does not decide anyone's funding.

Where allied health forms part of an approved support plan, the disciplines most often involved are occupational therapy for equipment, home safety and daily activities, physiotherapy for mobility, balance and falls prevention, exercise physiology for strength, and speech pathology for communication and swallowing.

What to have ready when you call

How to start

Call 1300 771 465, email hello@bloom-healthcare.com.au, or use the referrals page. Anyone can refer: the person themselves, a parent or carer, a GP or paediatrician, a support coordinator, a plan manager, a school, a SIL provider, another health professional, or a nominee or guardian.

Useful information to include is the person's age, the main concerns, any existing reports or assessments, relevant history, the goals that matter to the family, and the best contact details.

A member of the team will be in contact within 24 hours of receiving a referral. The referral is then triaged and matched to a clinician on capacity, location, skill set and the specific need. A welcome pack and intake form follow, and nothing is scheduled until the intake form is completed and returned. Bloom aims to schedule the initial meeting within 5 business days where possible. Rates, hours, travel and reporting are set out in a service agreement that is discussed and signed before service delivery and billing begin.

If something is not working once services start, the feedback page explains how to raise it, the advocacy policy covers your right to an advocate, and the incident management policy sets out how incidents are handled and reported.

What allied health services does Bloom Healthcare offer in Brisbane?

Bloom Healthcare provides personalised NDIS and aged care support in Brisbane, including in-home, community, and telehealth allied health programs designed to improve independence, for NDIS, aged care, Medicare and privately funded clients.

Does Bloom Healthcare have a physical clinic in Brisbane that clients can visit?

No. Bloom Healthcare advises not to travel to a presumed clinic address, as services are primarily delivered in homes and community settings, with suitable telehealth also considered. Any clinic appointment, actual address and access arrangements must be explicitly confirmed.

Can someone from Ipswich, Logan or the Redlands enquire about Bloom's services?

Yes. People from Ipswich, Logan or the Redlands can enquire by including the service postcode, requested discipline and preferred setting. Greater Brisbane examples on the page are enquiry areas, and clinician availability and travel must be checked for the particular address.

Which page should I use for Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast support instead of the Brisbane page?

The South East Queensland page should be used for Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast enquiries. The team still needs the exact postcode, service and delivery preference to confirm available options.

Can I request a home visit from Bloom Healthcare in Brisbane?

Yes, you can enquire about home or community appointments. Bloom Healthcare checks the requested discipline, exact service postcode, clinical suitability and current clinician availability before confirming a visit, and travel and fees are agreed before booking.

What funding pathways can be discussed for Brisbane services?

You can ask about NDIS, aged care and Support at Home, Medicare psychology, private services, or another relevant referral pathway. Eligibility, service scope, practitioner requirements and payment arrangements vary, and an enquiry does not establish funding approval.

Do I need a referral ready before contacting Bloom about Brisbane services?

No, you can begin with an enquiry without having every document ready. Bloom Healthcare confirms the referral, clinical information, consent and funding requirements for the service, and health records should be sent only through the approved secure referral process.

What areas within Greater Brisbane does Bloom Healthcare regularly service?

Bloom Healthcare regularly takes enquiries from Brisbane and inner suburbs, North Lakes and the northern corridor, Redland Bay and the bay side, Logan, Ipswich, and Springfield.

Are there dedicated local pages for specific Brisbane-area suburbs?

Yes, dedicated service pages exist for North Lakes occupational therapy, Redland Bay occupational therapy, Sunshine Coast occupational therapy, and Brisbane psychology and counselling.

What should I do if my enquiry involves multiple addresses, like home and school?

Brisbane enquiries frequently involve multiple locations such as home, school, or childcare, and each address is assessed separately for service availability; if a request involves a school, this should be mentioned early in the enquiry process to facilitate proper arrangements.
